Last updated: 5 March 2026
Right to erasure
Under POPIA (Section 24), you have the right to request that we destroy or delete personal information we hold about you where:
- The data is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected.
- You withdraw consent on which processing was based.
- You object to processing and there are no overriding legitimate grounds.
- The data has been unlawfully processed.
- The data must be erased to comply with a legal obligation.
We will action valid deletion requests within 30 days of receipt.
WhatsApp Business Platform data
Where we process your WhatsApp messages or phone number on behalf of a business client, we act as a data processor. To request deletion of data held in that context, you should contact the business you communicated with directly (the data controller).
If you are unable to reach that business, or if you believe we hold your data in our own capacity, please contact us using the details below and we will investigate and respond appropriately.
Additionally, you can manage your data directly with Meta via WhatsApp's in-app settings or at WhatsApp Privacy Policy.
How to submit a request
Send your deletion request to: [email protected]
Please include:
- Your full name.
- The email address or phone number associated with your data.
- A description of the data you wish to have deleted.
- The basis for your request (e.g. withdrawal of consent, no longer necessary).
We may ask you to verify your identity before processing the request to prevent unauthorised deletion of others' data.
Exceptions
Your right to erasure may be limited where we are required to retain data:
- To comply with a legal obligation (e.g. tax and accounting records — typically 7 years).
- For the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims.
- For reasons of public interest in the area of public health.
Where we cannot fully action a deletion request, we will provide a written explanation of the reasons.
